The Sharks have traded James Sheppard to the New York Rangers for a 2016 4th round pick.
In what may be the first of more to come, Doug Wilson traded a pending unrestricted free agent for a draft pick. With the Sharks not planning to resign Sheppard, it's better to get something rather than nothing. Sheppard has had a pretty poor season with the Sharks so it's time for both sides to move on. The former top-10 pick revitalized his career in San Jose after a major knee injury, but he hasn't shown much signs of improvement in the three seasons he's been here. Sheppard had 40pts in 156 regular season games and 6pts in 18 playoff games with the Sharks.
