Where Nikolay Goldobin will play next season has been a hot topic since the Sharks drafted him in the 1st round of the 2014 draft. His junior team, the Sarnia Sting, have three imports now after drafting 2015 eligible Pavel Zacha. CHL teams are only allowed two. Vladislav Kodola is the other one, but he's not as good as Goldobin. Kodola will be in Sarnia longer, with Goldobin staying only one more season if at all. That leaves Nikolay either traded to another team or playing in another league. Erie is looking for a top-6 forward; and the thought of Goldobin playing alongside Connor McDavid next year is mouth watering. However, there has been talk that Goldobin wants to go pro next season.
I recently heard there's a good chance that Goldobin won't be returning to Sarnia/OHL, that he wants to play pro. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up if he doesn't stick with the Sharks. -HF Boards
If Goldobin doesn't make the Sharks roster will he go to the KHL or another European pro league? He's ineligible to go to Worcester in the AHL and I don't know if he would go to play in his home country in Russia. After all, he did come to Canada and has stated that he likes it much better than back home. Goldobin still has to sign an entry-level contract so I believe we can expect that in the near future. At this point it is safe to say that he will play the 9 games and if he sticks we don't have to worry about what uniform he's wearing in 2014-15. If not, it will be interesting to see if he goes back to the OHL and is traded, or if he goes pro in Europe.
